Project H.E.A.R.T.
Thu. November 19th 2015 - Sun. December 6th 2015 please refer to the fifty fifty facebook page for operating hours
The fifty fifty arts collective is honored to host Project H.E.A.R.T. in our gallery space from November 19th (opening night) to December 6th.
"Project H.E.A.R.T., which supports both emerging and established artists, was initiated by the organization Surrounded By Cedar, which works with Indigenous youth-in-care. Out of conversations that evolved within Surrounded By Cedar’s cultural department, we recognized that healing and empowerment develops through building a healing community that welcomes all ages, sexual and gender orientation. H.E.A.R.T. stands for “ Health through Engagement in the Arts to Reclaim our Traditions (H.E.A.R.T.) ”. And so, with our intention to build a restorative community laid out before us, a series of workshops were created to nurture our creative journey together. Our vision for this work, and for reconciliation, is one of a vibrant and inclusive community that creates positive and profound social change through the process of artmaking, ceremony, storytelling and the creation of major art installations for community and by community.
Project H.E.A.R.T. helped initiate critical thinking and insight into our shared history – both Aboriginal people and settlers alike. The outcomes are a unified vision of social cohesion, political engagement, and resiliency.
The work explores racism, peacemaking, traditional conflict resolution, histories of Aboriginal Peoples,
reconciliation, and builds resiliency in youth, empowers marginalized communities, celebrates local histories,
addresses addiction and environmental issues, or simply provides new opportunities for expression and dialogue, as
art processes expand and deepen our capacity for change."
Please join us in supporting Project H.E.A.R.T., opening night and in the weeks that follow.
