Taz Graham

Thu. January 15th - Thu. February 19th Saturday 11am-3pm
Aviary invites you to step inside its cage door and imagine freedom not as a state but as a process. The installation synthesizes the artist's body of work on transgender identity, presenting a conceptual analysis of self-determination told through feathered metaphors.

Taz Rowan Graham (they/them) is an interdisciplinary artist of Irish, Swedish and German descent. They live as an uninvited settler on Turtle Island in the unceded territory of the lək̓ʷəŋən and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples ("Victoria" BC). Taz views their creative practice as one of finding, forging, and fortifying connections, revealing the invisible threads that tether us to one another in countless ways. Their work engages modes of storytelling through print media, film, sculpture, painting, and installation to explore concepts such as transgender identity, disability, collectivism, memory and grief.
